Cheesy Turnips

This recipe is very similar to potatoes au gratin, but with turnips! Turnips are a really great substitute for potatoes in a lot of recipes.

Ingredients

  • 4 large turnips

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 cup mozarella or Gruyere cheese, shredded (I will also use the Lindale or Providence from Goat Lady Dairy)

  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1 tsp fresh thyme

  • 2-3 cloves of garlic minced (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 and butter a baking dish

  2. Peel and slice your turnips using a very thin mandoline or a sharp knife (very thin)

  3. Put a layer of turnips on the bottom of the baking dish and season with salt, pepper and thyme. You can also add the fresh minced garlic here

  4. Top with a third of the cheddar cheese, mozzarella. Add a couple slices of butter on top

  5. Repeat the steps 3 and 4 until you have formed 3 layers and top with your remaining cheese

  6. Drizzle the heavy cream over the turnip and cheese

  7. Cover with foil and back for 25 minutes

  8. Remove the foil and broil for 2-3 minutes until bubbly and browned

  9. Allow to cool
