Basil Pesto

Pesto is a versatile ingredient to have on hand. We have several pesto recipes available, but the most common pesto is a basil pesto. You can use pesto for pasta sauces, on chicken, or fish.


Total Time: 10 Minutes




Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup pine nuts lightly toasted (toasting in first direction)

  • 2 cups basil leaves, packed

  • 2 cloves garlic peeled

  • 1/3 cup parmesan cheese fresh shredded

  • 1/3 cup olive oil

  • 1 pinch salt


Directions

  1. Heat a skillet (or pan) over medium-high heat; toast pine nuts until golden, tossing occasionally in the pan.

  2. Add the pine nuts to the bowl of your along with the basil, garlic and parmesan cheese; pulse until finely chopped (scrape down the sides of the food processor if needed).

  3. Gradually add the olive oil in a thin stream until the pesto comes together and is well combined. (Scrape down the sides of the food processor again, if needed).

  4. Season with salt to your taste.

  5. Pesto will store in a closed jar in your refrigerator, or you can make plenty and freeze for later
