Basil Lemonade

In our first year of the farm share a special member shared this recipe with us and it has been a summer party staple ever since. We love to serve plain or as a mixed cocktail.

Prep Time: 5 Minutes | Cook Time: 30 Minutes

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup firmly packed basil leaves

  • 6 cups water (divided)

  • 1 1/2 cups squeezed lemon juice (6-8 lemons)

  1. In a medium saucepan muddle (gently smashing the basil and sugar with a wooden spoon) the sugar and basil together

  2. Add 2 cups of water and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until all the sugar has dissolved

  3. Remove from heat and allow basil to steep in the syrup until cool

  4. Once cool, strain the syrup into a pitcher

  5. Add four cups of water and lemon juice, stir well

  6. Serve over ice with garnish of basil and lemon
